Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:37–39). He even commanded, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matt. 5:44).
Satan, by contrast, is called “the father of lies” (John 8:44). He comes only “to steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10). Where Jesus brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22–23), Satan brings hatred, deception, and destruction.
When Jesus was nailed to the cross, surrounded by angry mobs, He prayed: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). That is the heart of our Savior.
Recently, after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, some voices on social media celebrated. Scripture reminds us this is evidence of blindness: “The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers” (2 Cor. 4:4). Erika Kirk spoke with courage, saying, “Evildoers have no idea the fire they have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.”
But as believers, we remember: “We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). We all need God’s grace. Jesus Himself said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father” (Matt. 7:21). He knows who belongs to Him. He restores the repentant, as He did Peter, and He judges those who harden their hearts like Judas.
Those who trust Christ will be with Him forever. Those who reject Him will face eternal separation in hell (Matt. 25:41).
If Charlie were here today, I believe he would remind us to keep speaking truth and to continue conversations, even with those who oppose us. Yet when evil turns violent, it must be restrained by justice (Rom. 13:4). Still, our ultimate call is not to repay evil for evil, but to overcome evil with good (Rom. 12:21).
SOS: Switch Off Satan. Let’s pray for peace in our nation and our world.
Prayer
El Shaddai, God Almighty,
Help us to turn from hatred and violence.
Fill our hearts with humility and thanksgiving for Your blessings.
Guide our steps in the way of Jesus Christ.
Empower us by Your Spirit to be peacemakers in a divided world.
We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Peace and blessings to you and yours.
